A new national study has delivered encouraging news for South Texas motorists: Laredo has been ranked the fourth safest city for drivers in the United States. According to Allstate’s 2026 America’s Best Drivers Report, Laredo drivers average 13.82 years between collisions, significantly outperforming the national average of 10.86 years. The city improved from fifth place in 2025 to fourth place this year.
The annual report analyzed collision and property damage claim data from January 2023 through December 2024 in the nation’s 200 most populated cities. The results suggest that many Laredo drivers are practicing safer driving habits and helping reduce the frequency of crashes on local roadways.
While this ranking is a positive achievement, it does not mean accidents no longer occur. Across Texas, crashes continue to cause serious injuries, property damage, and fatalities every year. Even communities with strong safety records still experience dangerous collisions caused by distracted driving, speeding, impaired driving, failure to yield, and other negligent behaviors.
The Allstate report also introduced data from its Drivewise program, which tracks driving behaviors such as phone use, speeding, and nighttime driving. Researchers found that risky behaviors remain common in many parts of the country and continue to contribute to collisions and insurance claims.
For Texas drivers, the findings reinforce the importance of maintaining safe habits behind the wheel:
- Avoid distractions, especially cellphone use.
- Obey posted speed limits.
- Wear seat belts at all times.
- Leave adequate following distance.
- Stay alert during nighttime driving.
- Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Even a momentary lapse in attention can lead to a serious crash. Victims of motor vehicle accidents often face medical bills, lost wages, vehicle repair costs, and long recovery periods. Understanding your legal rights after an accident can be critical to protecting your financial future.
At Ben Bronston & Associates, we know that even responsible drivers can be injured by someone else’s negligence. If you or a loved one has been hurt in a Texas car accident, it is important to gather evidence, seek medical treatment, and understand the insurance and legal options available to you.
Laredo’s recognition as one of America’s safest driving cities is certainly worth celebrating. However, the best way to keep Texas roads safe is for every driver to remain focused, cautious, and committed to responsible driving every time they get behind the wheel.
