Traffic fatalities continue to be a serious concern in Austin and throughout Texas. According to KXAN, Austin has reported 52 traffic fatalities as of August 20, 2026, highlighting the continued risks facing drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorcyclists on the city’s roads.

Fatal crashes have occurred across the city, including along major routes such as Interstate 35, U.S. 183, Ben White Boulevard, North Lamar Boulevard, and South Congress Avenue.
Pedestrians and Motorcyclists Face Serious Risks
Many of Austin’s fatal crashes in 2026 have involved some of the road’s most vulnerable users.
KXAN’s reporting includes numerous pedestrian fatalities, including incidents along I-35, North Lamar Boulevard, South Congress Avenue, U.S. 183, and SH 71. Several crashes were reported as hit-and-runs, leaving law enforcement searching for drivers after fatal collisions.
Motorcyclists have also been involved in a significant number of deadly crashes this year. Fatal motorcycle collisions have occurred on roads including Slaughter Lane, Parmer Lane, I-35, Spicewood Springs Road, and East William Cannon Drive.
