In the early hours of May 28, 2025, an unusual incident unfolded in downtown Houston when a Jeep Wrangler became stuck on the METRORail Red Line tracks overpass near North Main Street. According to METRO officials, the vehicle was first spotted around 3:30 a.m., obstructing a critical segment of the Red Line, which connects Fannin South to the Northline Transit Center.
SkyEye footage captured the scene, showing the Jeep immobilized on the elevated tracks. Notably, the driver was absent from the vicinity, and the circumstances leading to the vehicle’s presence on the tracks remain unclear.
To mitigate service disruptions, METRO implemented single-tracking in the affected area, allowing trains to operate in both directions on shared tracks until the obstruction was cleared. By approximately 8 a.m., crews successfully removed the Jeep using a crane, restoring normal operations.
This incident underscores the importance of rail safety and adherence to traffic regulations. Unauthorized access to rail tracks not only endangers the individual involved but also poses significant risks to public safety and disrupts essential transit services.
